Spam tokens (also known as airdrop scams) are unwanted tokens or NFTs sent to your wallet, often with the goal of tricking you into visiting malicious websites or interacting with harmful smart contracts.
Coinpanda automatically detects and filters spam tokens to keep your portfolio and tax reports accurate, but you can also manually mark any token or NFT as spam. This article provides further information on dealing with spam tokens in Coinpanda.
What are spam tokens?
Spam tokens are typically:
Sent to your wallet without your consent
Worth little or nothing
Named to attract attention (e.g., “ClaimReward”, “BonusUSDC”, “VisitXYZ.com”)
Designed to lead you to phishing websites
They exist because most blockchains allow anyone to send tokens to any wallet address.
⚠️ Are spam tokens dangerous?
Spam tokens themselves are usually harmless if left untouched.
However, they can become dangerous if you:
Visit links embedded in the token name or metadata
Connect your wallet to unknown websites
Approve or interact with malicious smart contracts
👉 Important: Never interact with unknown tokens or NFTs.
How Coinpanda handles spam tokens
Coinpanda uses automatic detection to identify spam tokens from the following blockchains:
Blockchain | Tokens | NFTs |
Ethereum (incl. 152+ EVM chains) | ✅ | ✅ |
Solana | ✅ | ✅ |
Cardano | ✅ | ✅ |
Starknet | ✅ | ✅ |
Sui | ✅ | ✅ |
Aptos | ✅ | ✅ |
TON | ✅ | ✅ |
Although Coinpanda supports 150+ other blockchains, automatic spam detection is not available for blockchains not listed in the table above.
However, managing spam tokens is both simple and effective from the dedicated Spam Center page, as you will discover later.
What happens when an asset is marked as spam?
When you mark an asset as spam, it is:
❌ Excluded from portfolio value
❌ Excluded from all tax calculations
❌ Excluded from all tax reports
👁️ Hidden from the Transactions page (by default)
You can still view spam transactions by adjusting the filters on the Transactions page.
Manually marking assets as spam
You can mark any token or NFT as spam at any time. Coinpanda offers two ways to mark assets as spam:
From the Transactions page
Find the transaction
Click the action menu
Select Mark as spam
PS! The Mark as spam action is only available for Receive transactions.
💡Marking a transaction only marks this specific transaction
Manually marking a transaction as spam will not update other transactions with the same asset.
To automatically update all transactions with the same spam asset, you must mark the asset itself as spam from the Spam Center.
From the Spam Center
You can also manage spam assets directly from the Spam Center (see below).
Spam Center
The Spam Center gives you full control over how spam is handled in your account.
It includes two sections:
1. Resolved Spam
This section shows all assets currently marked as spam, including:
Automatically detected spam tokens by Coinpanda
Assets manually marked as spam
If any asset has been wrongly marked as spam by Coinpanda, or if you have accidentally marked the wrong asset as spam manually, you can whitelist the asset and restore all transactions this way:
Locate the token or NFT in the table
Click the three dots menu in the table row
Select "Unmark as spam"
This action will whitelist the asset to ensure that any future transactions imported are not marked as spam. This also applies if you delete all previously imported transactions and re-import your transaction history from the API.
Selecting "Unmark as spam" will also reverse the spam status of all previously imported transactions, such that all transactions of the asset will be included in your portfolio and tax calculations.
👉 Once whitelisted:
The asset will NOT be marked as spam from future imports
All existing transactions are restored
2. Potential Spam
This section shows all assets that may be spam, but are not yet marked as such.
These are:
Tokens and NFTs that are currently NOT marked as spam
Assets NOT tracked by CoinGecko
Any tokens tracked by CoinGecko are intentionally excluded from potential spam, since any tokens that are tradeable and have significant value should not be treated as spam in Coinpanda.
If any asset has not been automatically identified as spam by Coinpanda, or if you have accidentally unmarked an asset as spam manually, you can blacklist the asset and mark all transactions as spam this way:
Locate the token or NFT in the table
Click the three dots menu in the table row
Select "Mark as spam"
This action will blacklist the asset, ensuring that any future imported transactions are automatically marked as spam. This also applies if you delete all previously imported transactions and re-import your transaction history from the API.
Selecting "Mark as spam" will also mark all previously imported transactions as spam. This is very helpful since you only need to mark the same asset as spam one time - no need to mark each individual transaction as spam anymore!
👉 Once blacklisted:
The asset will always be marked as spam from future imports
All existing transactions are marked as spam
Important behavior to understand
Spam settings are global across all wallets
Marking/unmarking applies to all past and future transactions
Changes are per asset (token/NFT), not per transaction
There is currently no bulk edit (assets must be handled individually)
FAQ
Why do I see spam tokens in my wallet?
Anyone can send tokens to your public wallet address. This is a common tactic used in crypto scams.
Can spam tokens affect my taxes?
No. As long as they are marked as spam in Coinpanda, they are fully excluded from all tax calculations.
What if a real token is incorrectly marked as spam?
You can:
Go to Spam Center → Resolved Spam
Click Unmark as spam
This will permanently whitelist the asset.
Should I delete spam tokens from my wallet?
No, you should generally never delete individual transactions previously imported into any Coinpanda wallet.
The best action is to mark the asset as spam from the Potential Spam page, which also ensures the same transactions don't get reimported in the future.
