Why is the number of disposals higher than the transaction count?

The number of disposals is not the same as the total number of transactions you have but refers to the number of individual capital gains transactions. The number of capital gains transactions you have in any tax year will also depend on the calculation (cost basis) method used.

Example

You buy BTC on three occasions:

  • 0.10 BTC bought on January 1st, 2023

  • 0.25 BTC bought on January 15th, 2023

  • 0.35 BTC bought on March 24th, 2023

You then decide to sell all BTC in April of the same year:

  • 0.7 BTC sold on April 10th, 2023

This single Sell transaction will now result in three disposals since your purchase history of 0.7 BTC spans from January 1st to March 24th. Using the built-in Cost Analysis tool in Coinpanda shows this in more detail:
